I am good in interviews - in general. I stay calm. I smile. I answer all of the questions they have with ease. I'm friendly. I'm outgoing. You know, the typical good interview etiquette. If there were a good definition online of "Interview" I would do the things it says. [There isn't, I checked.] Anyway - I do well if I'm actually given the opportunity. You know, if the interviewer actually holds an interview. The reason I bring this up is because I had a job "interview" today. It was 2 minutes long & went like this....
"So it says here you only worked at [Company] for a few months?"
"Yeah. They were downsizing & doing lay-offs & realized my position could be done by a machine." [awkward laughter..]
"Did you do bookkeeping there?"
"Nope." [I thought this was a secretarial position, not bookkeeping.]
"I assume you answered phones?"
"Yes, I did."
"Oh so you know how to deal with b**chy customers over the phone? [as he laughs at his own joke]"
"Oh yeah, I definitely have had to deal with unhappy people."
"Do you like dogs?"
"Yes.".......
"Can you use an adding machine without looking?"
"Definitely." [Why? Will I be blindfolded here?]
"So you managed a sunglass store?"
"Yes, I started out managing 1 store and got promoted to Regional Manager where I managed 5 stores."
"So you had customers walk up to you? You worked in a mall?"
"Yes."
"There's not enough people in Riverton to do something like that, is there? [ha. ha. ha.]"
"No, there really isn't." [awkward...]
"Hmm...let me think if there is anything else I should ask you..."
[-in my head- "um yeah, lots of things - haven't you ever held an interview before?!!!"]
"Well, I have 7 other interviews today. I had one scheduled for 7:30, but she didn't show up. I don't know what that's about. So you'll be hearing from me. This was just a little 'meet & greet'. So, nice to meet you."
"You too, have a great day." [big cheesy smile on my face, as I walk to my car a little confused.]
And 2 minutes after I pulled up I was back in my car - after having a not so typical interview. No questions really about me, my work ethic, my skills, what the job entails, the hours, wages. Really anything that would normally be said in a job interview was not. Oh, did I mention that this guy was hi-ick! I mean, sure, he seemed really nice & sweet. Just not really sure how to deal with people in a professional setting, perhaps? He never asked me "So do you have any questions about the position that I can answer?" I never had the chance to find anything out about the job! I don't even know if I'd want it! I don't know what it is. Apparently it's adding things & talking to rude people on the phone? Awesome.
So really, all I want is the chance to have an interview somewhere! Not even a job - pssh, who needs one of those? Not me. Lame. I just want an interview! Not some awkward 'meet & greet".

Steph, that was so funny! You need to be a writer for newspaper column or a magazine, that was great! I also love you "new" hair!
